San Diego Unified School District is a major local district and has a Community Advisory Committee for Special Education that includes parents, staff, community agencies, and interested community members.
The City of San Diego and the surrounding county include multiple school districts. Confirm the student's district before using SDUSD-specific contacts.
California gives a school district 60 days to finish an initial special education evaluation. A written request for an evaluation has to be answered inside 15 days. Missed deadlines are handled by the California Department of Education, Special Education Division, which takes written state complaints from parents.
No state license exists for special education advocacy. No federal agency issues one either, and no exam stands between a person and the title.
