About

IDEA gives parents rights. Advocacy helps them use them.

Congress passed IDEA to ensure every child with a disability receives a free appropriate public education: special education and related services designed for the child's unique needs, aimed at preparing them for further education, employment, and independent living. Parents have enforceable rights in that process. Schools have legal obligations.

Most of that gets decided in evaluations, IEP meetings, and placement discussions. IDEA gives parents the right to bring an advocate to those meetings. Teachers have unions. Districts have attorneys. Disagreement about what a child needs is expected. Many parents attend without comparable support.

Special education advocacy is largely unregulated. There is no universal license, no state bar, no single credential that tells a parent who is qualified. Families find advocates through word of mouth, parent groups, and luck. Rates are hard to compare. We think the practice deserves better than that.

What we are building

A reputation system for a field that does not have one.

Special education advocates work with parents to navigate school processes. For example, they review records before a meeting, explain evaluation results, help draft parent concerns, and attend IEP meetings as support. The parent makes decisions and gives consent.

Find Parent Advocates is a directory where families search by location and specialty, compare profiles and rates side by side, read verified reviews, and contact advocates directly. Free for parents. No referral fees added to your bill.

When parents can see who is available and what they charge, costs come down. Advocates compete on quality and fit, not on who happens to know whom. Over time, that raises the standard for the whole practice.

For advocates, especially educators making the jump

Many advocates are former teachers, related service providers, or district staff who left to do this work. They know the system. They did not sign up to build websites or pay hundreds per month for lead generation.

Find Parent Advocates lists your practice where parents already search. Plans start at $10 per month. You get a public profile, an inquiry portal, and review tools. You invoice families directly and keep 100% of every case. No per-inquiry or per-case fees.

List your practice

For parents learning on their own

Not every family is ready to hire an advocate. Our Help Center covers IEPs, 504 plans, evaluations, and dispute resolution. The directory is for when you want to compare advocates and reach out directly.

Verified reviews

Reviews come from families who contacted an advocate through the platform. We do not edit or remove negative feedback.

Direct inquiries

Parents message advocates directly from a listing. No referral fees for families. No middleman on your case.

Data and privacy

Inquiry details stay between you and the advocate you contact. Read our privacy policy for specifics.

I directed dispute resolution and monitoring at Florida's Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, overseeing the state's due process system and investigations that determined outcomes for hundreds of families. I also worked in large school districts.

Cases often turned on whether parents understood the process and had someone knowledgeable in the room. Good advocates existed, but finding them was unreliable and expensive. This directory is my answer to that: transparency for parents, affordable listing for advocates, and a way for the field to build a track record over time.
